Travels with Trinity: Starfish Beach Phu Quoc Vietnam

It’s been since February since my last post here. It’s now August. Six months of travel, experiences and projects. There is no way that I’ll be able to fully share with you all of the experiences over the past 6 months.

My daughter Trinity traveled with me for the better part of this time-frame. It’s not often that you hear of a mother-daughter team traveling. We had an amazing time and since she went back to the states nearly a month ago (July), I miss here terribly.

What did we do?

February was spent traveling in/around Vietnam. We rode scooters nearly every day. Most memorable from our time in Vietnam was exploring the small local craftsman villages in and around Hanoi. The blacksmith Village, and Can Tho an Incense making village were my favorites.

It was so cold in Northern Vietnam though that we decided to head to Phu Quoc Island in the far south for some warmth. We certainly found warmer weather but missed the quaint local atmosphere that we’d grown accustomed to in Northern Vietnam.

Starfish Beach

One of my favorite experiences in Phu Quoc was our excursion to Starfish Beach. Only a 25 km. ride from our accommodation at 9 Station Hostel, it was an entire different world than that of Phu Quoc.

Rickety over-water walkways led to restaurants with the freshest seafood you an find. Pulled straight from the water, cooked and to the table in 30 min or less… This was ‘eating local’ at its finest.

It was a huge endeavor to get Trinity to walk out the rickety pier out to the restaurants but once there…I think she enjoyed it.

Pictures couldn’t show it well, but along both sides of the walkway, there were hundreds of red starfish clearly visible in the crystal blue water. We caught these two boys in action as they were catching them (not sure why).

If I could give any recommendation for Phu Quoc, it would be to get out and explore. Get away from the main tourist area, there are so many beautiful places on the island.
