Market Day: Otavalo Ecuador

The market in Otavalo Ecuador is said to be the largest in all of Ecuador.  Located about an hour and half by bus outside of Quito, Teresa was insistent that she needed to do some last minute shopping for the family before she flew home.  I indulged her shopping needs knowing that if there is a market….there will be street food!!

Teresa was on a mission….she found all sorts of trinkets and goods that I’ll refrain from listing so she can surprise the recipients.   Let’s just say that even the torrential downpour didn’t slow her down….she was a haggling fiend!

I loved checking out all the fresh fruits. Of course, everyone was hiding from the downpour so I had the venders to myself. Oh…did I mention ‘food’? This little girl was irresistible: picking at the pork with her fingers.

And….did I mention the FOOD? The blue cart pictured has some sort of grinder mounted on the top. the operator places a chunk of ice on the grinder, grinds it and flavors with your choice of sweetness. An Icee !!

Last but certainly not least….Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice! My favorite!
