I spent almost 4 weeks in San Cristobal de las Cases Mexico and loved every minute of it. I think one of the best parts for me is that it was the first time that I was actually in one place long enough while traveling to feel like a part of it. From my favorite coffee shop to the best and cheapest wine; I feel like it’s home (at least for a short while). It’s the same feeling that I get when working in a new place in the states with Travel Nursing. The point when you can actually give someone recommendations or directions but before becoming stagnant and bored.
San Cristobal will certainly hold some special memories for me. It’s a beautiful city. Let me take you on a short photo tour of my neighborhood.
We’ll start at ‘my place’. For about $7usd/day I’ve got a large room with a double bed, shared kitchen and bath, and a wonderful outdoor central patio. It’s about 2 blocks from the main walking street full of restaurants and bars and such, and about 5 blocks from the central park.
Absolutely everything that I could need is within walking distance. Here is the fruit market just a block down the road.
The main walking/tourist street less than 5 minutes away…
My local bar Ricci’s with 2 for 1 Vino de la casa or 10 peso beer for the ladies…
Pollo a la Lena with the world’s best rotisserie chicken is a mere 10 minute walk away…
The central park full of shoe shiners is about 5 blocks away. It’s a great place to sit to read or people-watch. There is also free wi-fi if your inclined to check your email.
The locals market is about a 10 minute walk away and always full of people and activity. Check out the taco eateries inside….somewhere past fish mountain and pollo (chicken) row.
As you can see, my neighborhood has all the conveniences that I could ever need. It’s hard to leave….
